Independence day!

Advice from Theodore Roosevelt:

”It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.”


I had a friend that would always be critical of everything around him. He would always suggest that others go an tell them where they were falling short. Never willing to put any skin in the game but was quick to criticize others. Do you know some like that?


Maybe you have people in your life that are always knocking you and your ideas or suggestions down? Not willing to offer suggestions to solve problems but happy to point out the problems? Negative, negative, negative people!


In the valuation world if it costs nothing its probably not worth much if anything. I like the quote from Teddy Roosevelt because it speaks to me and says better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. The ugly on me are the battle scars of the efforts I have made, success and short comings. I don't win them all but I am always a winner for making my best effort. Give your negative friends and family a big hug and tell them you love them, but you cannot follow their ways. Put yourself out there and yes sometimes it will hurt or be embarrassing, but the rewards are worth the pain.


What I have learned from my Bible is that the question is not why me, but rather why not me? God will not put on me more than I can handle as long as I trust in him. But I have to have skin in the game. I have to take action where and when I can. I have to apply His teachings and be willing to help others where I can. The Word says the Truth shall set you free. So this Independence day let the truth lead guide and direct you and take action to help others find, recognize and embrace their freedoms.
